Rome [ENA] In 2016 Italian government and Alibaba – the Chinese e-commerce Giant – signed a significant agreement concerning Italian food farming industry. The aim was to protect and promote Italian food farming excellent products against fakes like Parmesan and false Prosecco. The agreement has been useful for Italian manufacturers. In this way, they have been able to satisfy the increasing Made in Italy products demand on the

Chinese 430 million customer’s operating system. The agreement with Alibaba was an important part of the Italian strategy for the worldwide support of Made in Italy food industry. Today Made in Italy outclasses almost all European companies and European brands on the Chinese E-COMMERCE platforms. There are more or less 300 EU companies on the e-commerce platform TMall and about 80 companies are Italian. Fashion, cosmetics and food are the best seller Italian categories and furniture is also growing .

More than one thousand made in Italy brands are present on Alibaba and a growing number of Italian single-brand stores joined the platform recently:Ferrero, Barilla, Illy, Maserati, Emporio Armani, Geox, DeLonghi, Superga, Foppapedretti. Through Alibaba platforms Italian brands can reach 552 million consumers in China alone, and have generated 768 billion dollars in 2018.
